Leadership is evolving faster than ever. Gone are the days when leaders only needed strong decision-making skills. Today’s leaders must also communicate effectively to succeed. Business communication has become the cornerstone of modern leadership. It builds trust, fosters collaboration, and inspires action.

Consider this: 86% of employees and executives blame workplace failures on poor communication. Strong communication separates good leaders from great ones. It drives impact, aligns teams, and creates lasting influence.

In today’s digital age, communication is no longer just a skill—it’s a necessity. Leaders who can connect with people, deliver clear messages, and inspire change will thrive.

Leadership has changed

Leadership is not about power or control anymore. It’s about inspiring and empowering others. Modern leaders must engage teams, manage change, and build meaningful connections.

Satya Nadella

  • Inspiring a shared vision: Great leaders paint a picture of the future and inspire others to follow it.
  • Building trust: Open communication builds trust and creates a culture of honesty.
  • Handling change and crisis: In times of uncertainty, communication becomes a vital tool.

Example: Satya Nadella transformed Microsoft by promoting a culture of empathy and collaboration. His communication style helped him rebuild trust and boost innovation, making Microsoft a leader once again.

Satya Nadella

Communication shapes how leaders inspire teams, solve problems, and adapt to change. Leaders must master it to succeed.

Communication is a leadership superpower

Effective communication helps leaders turn vision into action, build collaboration, and manage conflict. These skills set successful leaders apart.

Turning vision into action

Leaders must communicate their vision clearly. A compelling vision turns ideas into reality.

Example: Elon Musk’s vision for SpaceX is not just about building rockets. It’s about taking humans to Mars. His powerful storytelling inspires his teams and engages the public.

Driving collaboration

Global teams require seamless communication. Strong leaders create a shared sense of purpose and foster collaboration across boundaries.

Example: Companies that prioritised transparent communication during the pandemic kept employees aligned, engaged, and productive.

Managing conflict and change

Conflict is natural in any organisation. Strong communication helps resolve conflicts and keep teams focused on shared goals. During times of change, leaders who communicate well reduce uncertainty and build confidence.

Do future leaders need advanced communication skills?

Recognising the importance of communication, management programmes are evolving. These programmes prepare future leaders with modern skills that go beyond traditional business education.

They combine core management subjects with new-age concepts like leadership communication, design thinking, and digital business. This blend creates future-ready leaders with a competitive edge.

In the first year, students focus on building a foundation in business communication. Through practical projects, group discussions, and case studies, they learn how communication influences real-world business outcomes.

In the second year, students apply these skills in their chosen specialisations. Each area emphasises communication as an essential tool:

  • Finance students learn to present data clearly and tell compelling stories.
  • Marketing students explore brand storytelling and consumer engagement strategies.
  • Entrepreneurship students refine pitching skills to attract investors and partners.

These programmes combine communication training with hands-on experience to build confident leaders.

Practical communication training prepares leaders for success

Modern management programmes focus on practical learning. Students get real-world experience through internships, workshops, and simulations. This hands-on approach ensures they are ready to lead from day one.

Examples of practical experiences include:

  • Corporate internships: Students gain industry experience and see how communication works in real business settings.
  • Simulated boardroom discussions: Students practise handling high-stakes conversations with senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Workshops on storytelling and personal branding: These workshops help students craft their unique leadership identity.

This practical training bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-world leadership.

Employers value communicative leaders

Today’s business world demands leaders with communication skills. Companies seek professionals who can present ideas clearly, influence decisions, and collaborate effectively.

LinkedIn’s research shows communication is among the top five most in-demand soft skills. It’s no longer a “nice to have” skill. It’s a “must have”.

Employers want leaders who can explain ideas, connect with diverse audiences, and build trust. Graduates with these skills have a distinct advantage in the job market.

The future belongs to leaders who can communicate

The business world is changing fast. The future belongs to leaders who can combine technical expertise with communication mastery. Leadership success depends on connecting with others and inspiring action.

Modern management programmes help future leaders develop these skills. They teach students how to communicate effectively, think critically, and lead with confidence.

But remember-communication is more than a skill. It’s a mindset. It’s about being open, empathetic, and willing to listen. It’s about adapting your message for different audiences while staying true to your values.

If you’re ready to lead the future, start by mastering the power of business communication. It’s the key to becoming the leader you want to be.

In today’s fast-moving business world, data is one of the most valuable resources. Organisations that know how to use it effectively have a clear edge over their competitors. Every day, we generate around 2.5 quintillion bytes of data, and businesses are using it to predict trends, boost efficiency, and make better decisions.

At the heart of this data revolution is machine learning technology that helps transform raw information into valuable insights. Companies across industries use it to improve customer experience, cut costs, and stay ahead of the competition. It’s no longer just a bonus; it’s essential.

Customer lifetime value

Example: Starbucks focuses on maximising customer lifetime value, which depends on three key factors: the average spend per visit, the number of visits per year, and how long a customer stays loyal.

By using data analytics, Starbucks improved all three. This gave it a stronger competitive edge than relying solely on coffee quality-because, let’s face it, we’ve all had better lattes elsewhere.

Starbucks x AI and Machine Learning

Starbucks x AI and Machine Learning

Starbucks uses data to personalise the customer experience. The app tracks order history and purchase patterns to suggest customised offers. For example, if you usually buy an espresso on Tuesdays but skipped last week, you might get a notification offering double rewards to bring you back. This increases the number of visits and average spending per visit.

Starbucks also relies on data to create new products. Items like non-dairy drinks, summer specials, and home-brew options came from analysing customer preferences and predicting trends.

Lastly, data helps Starbucks decide where to open new stores. Using artificial intelligence and machine learning, the company analyses factors like income levels, traffic, and competition to pick the most profitable locations. This strategy ensures Starbucks stays close to customers wherever demand exists.

For students preparing for a career in business, understanding how to learn machine learning can be a game-changer. Modern Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) programmes are designed to give future managers the skills they need to combine data insights with business strategy-turning them into leaders who can thrive in a digital world.

But how does machine learning really help businesses gain a competitive edge? And why should future managers care about it? Let’s break it down.

What is the role of Machine Learning in business?

Until recently, business decisions were largely based on instinct, experience, and traditional methods of analysis. But now, data drives decisions. Machine learning deep learning takes data analysis to the next level by identifying patterns and predicting outcomes-helping managers make smarter, faster decisions.

Here are some key areas where machine learning deep learning is making a difference:

1. Predicting future trends

Machine learning models can predict future trends and behaviour by analysing historical data. This helps companies stay ahead of the curve and plan more effectively.

For example, Coca-Cola uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyse customer feedback from multiple sources. It tracks changing preferences in real time and adjusts its marketing strategies to stay relevant and keep its customers engaged.

2. Improving customer experience

Customers now expect personalised experiences. Machine learning helps businesses deliver just that. Netflix and Amazon use machine learning to recommend content and products based on individual user behaviour. This improves customer satisfaction and boosts sales.

In fact, 80% of Netflix’s watched content is based on its machine learning technology-powered recommendations. It’s no wonder the platform has become a global favourite.

3. Enhancing efficiency and reducing costs

Machine learning technology doesn’t just improve customer experience; it also streamlines internal processes. Logistics companies use it to optimise delivery routes and reduce fuel consumption, while manufacturers apply predictive maintenance to avoid equipment failure and reduce downtime.

4. Detecting fraud and managing risk

In the finance sector, machine learning plays a crucial role in fraud detection and risk management. Traditional systems aren’t quick or reliable enough to catch every suspicious transaction. Artificial intelligence and machine learning can analyse huge amounts of data in real time and spot unusual patterns far more accurately.

Why do future managers need Machine Learning skills?

Machine learning deep learning might sound technical, but it’s not just for data scientists. Business leaders need to understand how to use these tools to make informed decisions. Knowing how to turn data into actionable insights will give future managers a significant advantage.

A strong PGDM programme combines core management subjects-like Finance, Marketing, and Strategy-with modern fields such as Data Analytics, Digital Technologies, and machine learning technology. This mix of skills helps students become business professionals who can confidently lead in a data-driven world.

Key Features of a modern management programme:

  1. Interdisciplinary learning: Courses combine business fundamentals with subjects like digital businesses, design thinking, and entrepreneurship.
  2. Real-world application: Students work on real projects, applying machine learning to solve business problems.
  3. Industry-relevant skills: Exposure to the latest technologies prepares students for real-world challenges.
  4. Holistic development: Along with technical skills, programmes focus on building critical thinking, communication, and leadership abilities.

How can data-savvy managers drive change?

Managers who can interpret data and apply machine learning technology insights have a powerful impact on their organisations. Here are some examples of how data-driven managers improve business outcomes:

  • In marketing: Machine learning deep learning helps marketers predict customer behaviour, optimise campaigns, and improve return on investment.
  • In finance: Risk managers use AI machine learning to assess credit risk and detect fraud, while investment managers use predictive models to identify market opportunities.
  • In operations: Supply chain managers use machine learning to forecast demand, manage inventory, and improve overall efficiency.
  • In Human Resources: HR professionals use machine learning technology to predict employee performance, improve hiring decisions, and reduce staff turnover.

Today’s businesses want leaders who can combine strategic thinking with data insights. They’re looking for professionals who can make decisions based on evidence, not just intuition.

Management education for real-world success

A modern PGDM programme offers much more than classroom learning. It focuses on giving students hands-on experience through:

Core Management Courses

Our core courses lay the foundation for essential management skills. Courses in Strategy, Finance, Marketing, Human Resource Management, Operations, Quantitative Methods, and Economics guarantee a comprehensive understanding of general management.

Focus on Data, Technology, and Entrepreneurship

The futuristic, modern curriculum offers four niche specialisations in year 2: Finance, Marketing, Strategy, Data Analytics & Digital Technologies.

Essential Skills and Perspectives

BSM’s short modules facilitate holistic student development by covering courses in leadership, applications of AI, communication and critical thinking, and making students ready for the new-age workspace.

Experiential Learning

The journey from theory to application is made through live corporate and social projects that inculcate problem-solving and strategic-thinking skills in students. Other experiential learning techniques such as flipped classrooms and case studies prepare students for real-world application. Collaborating with both social and corporate partners, students work as a team to address real-world business challenges in their first year.

Internship and International Immersion

BSM students will have the option to undertake an international immersion opportunity and a summer internship before they enter year 2 of the programme, which will carry requisite credits towards completion of the PGDM programme.

These opportunities prepare students for the real challenges they’ll face in the workplace. They also help students build a network of valuable industry contacts.

What are the essential skills for a data-driven future?

If you’re aiming for a career in business, developing these skills will help you stand out:

  • Data literacy: Understanding how to read, interpret, and use data.
  • Strategic thinking: Connecting data insights with business goals.
  • Leadership and communication: Explaining complex ideas clearly to different audiences.
  • Adaptability and continuous learning: Staying up to date with the latest tools and techniques in machine learning and analytics.

The future of business belongs to those who can adapt and innovate. By combining business knowledge with machine learning skills, you can become a leader who’s ready for whatever comes next.

Gaining a competitive edge, today!

Learn machine learning isn’t a passing trend. It’s already transforming industries and redefining careers. If you want to stay competitive, you must learn how to use it to your advantage. The right PGDM programme can give you that edge. By learning how to combine data insights with business strategy, you’ll be ready to lead in today’s fast-changing business world.

So, ask yourself: Am I ready to lead with data? If the answer is yes, now is the time to take the next step in your career.

Equip yourself with the skills that will define the future of business.

Choosing the right PGDM programme was one of the biggest decisions of my life. With so many options available, I wanted a business school that not only provided academic excellence but also gave me real-world exposure and hands-on learning. My journey at Badruka School of Management (BSM) has been nothing short of transformative, and I want to share my experience with all the PGDM aspirants out there who are navigating the same path I once did.

What Made Me Choose a PGDM Over an MBA?

I always knew I wanted to pursue management studies, but I wasn’t sure whether to go for an MBA or a PGDM programme. After researching and speaking to professionals, I realised that PGDM offers more practical learning opportunities, industry-aligned coursework, and real-world applications. The two biggest factors that convinced me were:

  • Hands-on learning through case studies, discussions, and industrial experience.
  • The growing need for business communication and technical skills like Microsoft Excel, which traditional MBA programmes sometimes overlook.

Looking back, I can confidently say that choosing Badruka’s PGDM programme was the right decision.

Grateful to our esteemed Dean Prabhu Aggarwal

Why Did I Choose Badruka Over Other Institutions?

Once I was convinced that PGDM was the right path for me, the next big question was-which college should I choose? After thorough research and campus visits, Badruka School of Management stood out for several reasons:

  • A Unique Learning Methodology: The 15-day blockchain teaching methodology was unlike anything I had seen at other institutions.
  • Industry Exposure: Badruka has an impressive corporate network, bringing in top recruiters and industry experts.
  • Experienced Faculty: Learning from industry professionals and academic experts gave me deeper insights beyond textbooks.
  • Comfortable Living: The single-occupancy hostel rooms provided the personal space I needed to focus on my studies.
  • A Beautiful Campus: The lush greenery and open spaces made the learning environment even more enjoyable.

“Grateful to our esteemed Dean Prabhu Aggarwal sir who guided me through the world of statistics. His passion for the subject and dedication to nurturing students has instilled in me a lifelong appreciation for data-driven decision-making.”

My First Impressions at Badruka

I still remember my first day at Badruka-I was a mix of fear, nervousness, and excitement. The transition to a rigorous PGDM programme was overwhelming, but as days passed, I found my rhythm.

One of my most memorable experiences was my first interaction with Leena Chatterjee ma’am. Her thought-provoking approach to Organisational Behaviour opened my eyes to a new way of thinking. It was at that moment I knew that this journey was going to be transformational.

How the PGDM Programme Is Exceeding My Expectations

My Aspirations and Future Goals

As a Finance and Consulting enthusiast, my goal has always been to gain a strong foundation in financial concepts while also developing my problem-solving abilities. Apart from academics, I’ve been actively involved in student life:

  • Student Life Coordinator, where I get to organise creative events that help in our personal and professional growth.
  • Vice President of Kalakruthi Club, where I explore my passion for creativity alongside my studies.

Through this journey, I hope to develop analytical, technical, critical thinking, and presentation skills-all of which are crucial for a successful career in finance.

Advice for Future PGDM Aspirants

If you are considering a PGDM admission, my advice is simple-go for an institution that offers practical learning, industry exposure, and excellent faculty. For me, that place was Badruka School of Management.

“If you want to learn and grow in the field you are passionate about, Badruka can be the place to shape your future. Follow your passion and gut.”

With the rise of technology, shifting consumer preferences, and global competition, the need for innovative thinkers who can navigate the complexities of the ever-changing modern business world dynamic has never been greater.

But what makes an entrepreneur truly successful? Is it just the drive to build something new, or is there a deeper skill set required to turn ideas into successful businesses?

A Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) with a focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship provides a powerful foundation for those looking not only to start their own ventures but also to thrive in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Now, you must be wondering: how can a PGDM with a focus on Innovation and Entrepreneurship shape the future of aspiring business owners?

Let’s explore the key ways it helps entrepreneurs succeed in today’s dynamic environment.

The relationship between an entrepreneur and innovation

The relationship between an entrepreneur and innovation

Entrepreneurs and innovation go hand in hand. An entrepreneur is someone who starts a new business. They often use creative ideas to solve problems or meet needs in the market. Innovation is all about coming up with new ideas or improving existing ones. Entrepreneurs need innovation to stand out and succeed. They take calculated risks to transform these ideas into reality.

In summary, entrepreneurs drive innovation. They turn fresh ideas into real products or services. This helps businesses grow and can even change the way we live.

Creative thinking: An essential factor in a business’s success

Creative thinking is more than just a nice-to-have skill, it’s a must if you are an entrepreneur. Companies that stick to the same old methods often get left behind as new, more innovative players come into the scene. With the rapidly advancing global business dynamic, entrepreneurs need fresh ideas and the flexibility to adapt quickly if they want to stay ahead of their competition.

Creativity vs. Innovation

While creativity and innovation are often used interchangeably, they represent two distinct yet interconnected concepts in the world of entrepreneurship.

Creativity is the ability to generate unique ideas, think unconventionally, and explore new possibilities. It’s about imagining fresh concepts that challenge the norm.

Innovation, on the other hand, is the process of transforming those creative ideas into real-world applications. It involves developing new products, improving existing solutions, or finding more efficient ways to do things. While creativity sparks inspiration, innovation brings those ideas to life and delivers tangible value.

For entrepreneurs, understanding the difference between creativity and innovation is key. Creativity allows them to generate new ideas, while innovation ensures those ideas have an impact.

At Badruka, the PGDM in Innovation & Entrepreneurship teaches students to harness both creativity and innovation. They’re encouraged to think creatively, but also to focus on turning those creative thoughts into practical business solutions.

Creative problem-solving: The key to entrepreneurial success

In the business world, new challenges always come up. From market fluctuations to changing consumer behaviors, entrepreneurs constantly face obstacles that demand innovative solutions. This is where creative problem-solving becomes a crucial skill.

Whether it’s finding cost-effective ways to scale a startup, identifying new market opportunities, or adapting to disruptive technologies, creative problem-solving is at the heart of entrepreneurial success.

At Badruka’s PGDM with a specialisation in Innovation & Entrepreneurship, creative problem-solving is a core focus for modern business success. The program equips students with the skills to analyze complex business scenarios, develop innovative strategies, and implement solutions that create a lasting impact. Through hands-on projects, case studies, and mentorship from industry leaders, students learn how to apply creative thinking to real-world business challenges.

Expert leadership and faculty: Guiding PGDM students toward success

A strong leadership team and experienced faculty are the backbone of any academic institution, and at Badruka School of Management, students pursuing the PGDM in Innovation & Entrepreneurship benefit from the mentorship of some of the most accomplished educators and industry experts.

The faculty at Badruka comprises distinguished academicians, corporate leaders, and entrepreneurs who bring a wealth of real-world experience to the classroom. They are committed to nurturing future business leaders by providing practical insights, strategic guidance, and hands-on learning opportunities. With expertise spanning finance, marketing, strategy, entrepreneurship, and technology, the faculty ensures that students receive a well-rounded business education that goes beyond textbooks.

Beyond classroom learning, real-world insights from industry leaders play a crucial role in shaping an entrepreneur’s journey. A great example of this is the insightful webinar featuring renowned entrepreneur and business leader Srikant Sastri, where he explores how entrepreneurs can navigate the evolving business landscape in the AI-driven era. He shares key strategies, challenges, and success factors that aspiring business owners must consider to stay ahead.

Innovation powers success in today’s fast-paced and competitive business environment. Companies face challenges adapting to market dynamics, constantly changing consumer behaviours, and evolving technological advances. Transformative tools such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Design Thinking offer phenomenal ways to drive innovation. When combined,, leaders use these tools to solve business problems creatively and deliver user-centric solutions efficiently.

AI excels at analysing data, automating repetitive tasks, and predicting outcomes. It enhances the speed and depth of the innovation process. On the other hand, Design Thinking focuses on empathy, creativity, and iterative problem-solving. Together, AI and Design Thinking empower businesses to create meaningful solutions that deeply resonate with users. This article explains how integrating AI with Design Thinking redefines innovation, detailing its potential, benefits, and practical applications.

Example: Nike

Nike

Data x Empathy

Nike has nailed the collaboration between AI and Design Thinking by using AI to analyse customer data – from purchase history to social media interactions to predicting trends like what types of sneakers are gaining popularity in specific regions.

But here’s the kicker – they don’t stop at the data-they infuse empathy into every aspect of their customer experience. Empathy, in this context, is about understanding their customers’ emotions, motivations, and needs beyond what the numbers reveal. Nike did this by allowing customers to customise their sneakers. The data helped them tap into the emotional need for individuality, redesigned store layouts to make them intuitive and enjoyable, reducing decision fatigue and enhancing the overall experience by asking the right questions such as “How can we make this easier or more exciting for you?” – this level of empathy allowed them to design digital tools that integrated with physical stores seamlessly, creating a unified shopping experience. Nike also created impactful campaigns and initiatives that resonated with their target audience emotionally, like encouraging fitness for mental health or highlighting sustainability. They built trust by showing they care about the bigger picture-not just selling products.

By combining data with empathy, Nike doesn’t just sell shoes-they create experiences that customers love.

How does AI redefine creativity in Design Thinking?

AI is transforming the creative landscape by enabling teams to push boundaries and rethink traditional approaches. By analysing vast amounts of data and generating ideas that challenge conventional thinking, AI acts as a catalyst for innovation.

Picture a brainstorming session where human designers collaborate with AI tools to explore concepts that might have seemed impossible. AI enhances creativity by removing biases, suggesting novel solutions, and inspiring new directions. With tools like generative design algorithms, designers can produce multiple variations of a concept in minutes, encouraging experimentation and rapid iteration.

This partnership between human intuition and AI power unlocks a new level of creativity. Designers no longer have to start from scratch. Instead, they can refine AI-generated ideas to create solutions that balance innovation with functionality. This blend ensures that creativity remains at the heart of the process while AI provides the tools to accelerate and enhance it.

How does AI enhance Design Thinking?

Design Thinking takes a human-centred approach by understanding people’s needs and challenges. AI complements this approach by:

  1. Empathy and Research: AI tools like Natural Language Processing (NLP) analyse surveys, reviews, and social media. They identify patterns, sentiments, and opportunities that improve understanding of user needs.
  2. Problem Definition: AI visualises complex data, simplifying and identifying core problems. Predictive analytics highlight trends and potential challenges, guiding teams toward actionable solutions.
  3. Ideation: AI-powered tools generate innovative ideas by analysing historical data and trends. These tools inspire teams to explore diverse creative possibilities.
  4. Prototyping: Generative design algorithms produce multiple prototypes quickly based on specific criteria. Tools like Crazy Egg and Google Optimize facilitate testing and refinement.
  5. Testing and Iteration: AI simulates user interactions, providing real-time feedback. Tools like AB Tasty analyse behaviours, enabling immediate improvements.

Case Study: General Electric (GE)

General Electric

General Electric (GE), one of the world’s largest industrial conglomerates, faced a major roadblock in product development. Despite significant investment in technology, its offerings often missed the mark with customers, leading to stagnation and reduced market relevance.

GE addressed this gap by integrating Design Thinking with AI. This is how the transformation unfolded:

  • Approach: GE used Design Thinking to understand customer pain points while relying on AI to extract actionable insights from maintenance logs and feedback data.
  • Execution: General Electric (GE) transformed its product development process by :
    • Identifying the gaps with AI – GE started by feeding vast amounts of data into AI systems, including maintenance logs, operational data, and customer feedback. The AI tools identified recurring pain points, such as frequent breakdowns in particular machines or user frustration with unintuitive product features.
    • Empathy-driven insights – Design Thinking played a crucial role here. Instead of stopping at the raw data, GE’s teams worked to understand why these pain points existed. They interviewed customers, conducted field observations, and mapped user journeys to understand better the emotional and functional challenges users faced.
    • Redesigning interfaces with user needs in mind – Once the issues were apparent, GE’s designers and engineers collaborated to redesign product interfaces. AI simulated how users interacted with these interfaces, helping the team refine them in real-time. For example, machine control panels were redesigned to reduce complexity, making them more intuitive for operators.
    • Iterative prototyping and testing with AI – Instead of traditional trial-and-error methods, GE used AI-driven simulations to test new designs virtually. AI predicted the potential outcomes of these prototypes, highlighting areas for improvement before physical testing. This saved time, reduced costs, and ensured every iteration moved closer to customers’ needs.
    • Predictive maintenance solutions – GE integrated predictive maintenance into its products, allowing machines to detect and address issues before they become significant problems. AI continuously monitored performance and flagged early warning signs, while Design Thinking ensured these alerts were user-friendly and actionable.
    • Collaborative feedback loops – AI and Design Thinking created a feedback loop throughout the process. AI insights informed the next steps in the design process, while customer feedback on prototypes helped refine AI models, ensuring that the technology adapted to real-world needs.
  • Outcome: This synergy resulted in a 15% reduction in equipment downtime, higher customer satisfaction due to tailored solutions, and increased market competitiveness through innovation.

What are the benefits of integrating AI & Design Thinking?

Combining AI with Design Thinking offers significant advantages:

  1. Enhanced Creativity: AI generates unconventional ideas, breaking cognitive biases and expanding creative horizons.
  2. Improved Efficiency: Automation reduces repetitive tasks, allowing teams to focus on strategic decisions and innovation.
  3. Deeper User Insights: AI analyses vast datasets to uncover user behaviours and preferences, enabling informed decision-making.
  4. Greater Accuracy: AI-driven tools simulate diverse user scenarios and provide real-time feedback, ensuring effective solutions.

These benefits streamline processes and ensure that final solutions are innovative and user-focused. Companies like Burberry have successfully demonstrated how AI-driven Design Thinking transforms industries.

What are the challenges to consider when using AI in Design Thinking?

Despite its potential, integrating AI into Design Thinking presents challenges:

  1. Balancing Human Intuition with AI: While AI provides insights, empathy and creativity remain human strengths. Achieving this balance is crucial.
  2. Data Privacy: Ethical data collection and analysis require transparency and strong security measures to protect user information.
  3. Resistance to Change: Teams may hesitate to adopt new technologies. Clear communication, gradual implementation, and training can ease this transition.
  4. Maintaining Human-Centred Design: Even with AI automation, the focus must remain on understanding and addressing user needs.

So, what’s the fix? Upskill yourself or your team. Many top B-schools now offer industry-relevant PGDM programmes that teach how to blend AI and Design Thinking like a pro.

Wrapping it up!

AI and Design Thinking together represent a powerful approach to innovation. Combining AI’s analytical strength with human creativity allows businesses to solve problems effectively and deliver meaningful solutions. This collaboration accelerates problem-solving, deepens user insights, and improves efficiency. Leaders and teams ready to navigate the complexities of the modern world should embrace this transformative combination to stay ahead in a competitive landscape. For anyone dreaming of leading this revolution, there’s no better time to prep. PGDM programs that blend AI and Design Thinking are the ultimate playground for future innovators.

“The Fashion business has three pillars: Newness, Responsiveness, and Agility,” said Mr. Alok Dubey, CEO (R&B) of Apparel Group India. He addressed a captivated audience during an exclusive webinar organised by the Badruka School of Management (BSM) in Hyderabad. The Future of Retail: Luxury, Leadership & MBA Pathways was hosted by Ms. Nidhi Reddy, Senior Partner at 9.9 Education.

With over 35 years of experience in the retail industry, Mr. Dubey has held leadership roles in prestigious organisations, including Reliance Brands, Arvind Fashions, Titan, and The Times of India Group. He has also helmed renowned youth-focused brands such as US Polo Assn, Flying Machine, and Ed Hardy. During the webinar, Mr. Dubey shared invaluable insights into his journey, the evolution of the retail industry, and what aspiring leaders can expect in the future.

Born and raised in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Dubey’s early life was filled with aspirations that eventually led him to retail and management. Reflecting on his MBA journey, he highlighted how it transformed his thought process, honed his analytical skills, and opened doors to opportunities that defined his career trajectory. A pivotal moment was his summer training with the Times of India Group, where he networked with senior leaders and discovered his passion for the dynamic world of retail.

During his tenure at Titan Industries, he led the successful launch of Sonata watches in India, an achievement he proudly recounted. In an era before social media, convincing consumers to adopt new products relied heavily on trust, seller relationships, and innovative strategies Mr. Dubey mastered through hands-on experience.

The retail industry has evolved significantly, especially in understanding consumer behaviour. Mr. Dubey emphasised how modern consumers, particularly the youth, expect instant gratification and resonate with brands that reflect their values. Drawing from his experience with Swatch watches, he underscored the importance of creativity and new communication modes in engaging this audience.

Reflecting on the challenges posed by supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Dubey introduced the three foundational pillars of the fashion business:

  1. Newness – Keeping products and strategies fresh to meet ever-changing consumer demands.
  2. Responsiveness – Adapting quickly to market shifts.
  3. Agility – Ensuring flexibility across operations.

He credited his MBA for equipping him with the tools to navigate these complexities, particularly in retail planning, supply chain management, and data analysis.

Looking ahead, Mr. Dubey highlighted how AI is set to revolutionise the retail industry. From personalised customer insights to streamlined operations, he emphasised the importance of incorporating AI-centric education in retail programs to prepare future leaders. He encouraged students to remain curious, seek out problems to solve, and stay attuned to their surroundings – qualities he deems essential for tomorrow’s leaders.

Regarding sustainability, Mr. Dubey discussed the rise of “pre-loved” products in India, noting their current appeal among affluent consumers. He stressed the need for sustainable practices across the product lifecycle, from ethical manufacturing to responsible disposal. He argued that sustainability should extend beyond products to include internal organisational practices.

During the interactive Q&A session, Mr. Dubey addressed several pressing topics:

  • Zepto’s 10-Minute Café: He acknowledged the environmental impact of ultra-fast delivery services and raised concerns about the pressures placed on delivery partners and logistics systems.
  • Balancing Customer Insights and Privacy: With AI’s growing role, he urged consumers to remain cautious about sharing personal information online. He advised future leaders to prioritise ethical practices in leveraging AI.

As the session drew to a close, Mr. Dubey emphasised three key skills for students aspiring to build careers in retail:

  1. Embracing the pillars of newness, responsiveness, and agility.
  2. Cultivating adaptability and resilience.
  3. Maintaining an inquisitive and solution-oriented mindset.

Through his extensive experience and candid reflections, Mr. Dubey provided a roadmap for navigating the exciting yet challenging world of retail. His insights reaffirmed the transformative power of an MBA in shaping future leaders, equipping them with the skills to excel in a rapidly evolving industry.

About the Speaker: Mr. Alok Dubey is a seasoned retail professional with over three decades of experience in leadership roles across top organisations. Known for his innovative strategies and commitment to excellence, he inspires the next generation of retail leaders.

Are you interested in business and management studies? If so, then a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) could be the perfect course for you. To choose among the best programs, one has to perform well in the competitive entrance exams including the Common Admission Test (CAT), Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), Management Aptitude Test (MAT), or Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). These tests seem quite challenging but they are not as complicated as they seem!

Are you looking for a career change or simply wanting to learn new skills? In this blog, you’ll be able to learn helpful tips to help you do well and move closer to your goals.

Understanding What are PGDM Entrance Exams?

First, it is necessary to understand what a PGDM is. PGDM is a Post Graduate Diploma in Management. It is a course of two years’ duration which enables the students to acquire the necessary skills that are required for management studies. Such programs are offered by special schools that are accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). They are designed to build up students for the employment search.

And, the entrance exams. These are the tests that students have to take in order to be admitted into these programs. These examinations test the candidates’ ability to think logically, compute mathematical problems, and communicate in languages. These are the only students who will perform well in these tests, and thus be allowed to enroll. The exams have different parts that aim to test different abilities and they are quite challenging.

The Structure of PGDM Entrance Exams

The structure of PGDM entrance exams can vary depending on the institution. However, most exams generally include the following sections:

  • Quantitative Ability (QA)

This section evaluates mathematical skills and problem-solving capabilities. Topics include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data sufficiency.

  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC)

It assesses language proficiency, grammar, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. Strong VARC performance reflects effective communication abilities.

  • Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI)

This measures your analytical thinking, pattern recognition, and ability to interpret data.

  • General Knowledge (GK)

Some exams include this section to evaluate awareness of current affairs, business trends, and general knowledge.

Preparation Strategies for PGDM Entrance Exams

Effective preparation is key to acing PGDM entrance exams. With the right strategies, you can confidently tackle the exams and boost your chances of success. Below are some essential strategies for optimal preparation:

1. Understand the Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Each PGDM entrance exam follows a specific format. It’s crucial to familiarise yourself with the number of questions, the time limits, and the scoring criteria. By understanding these elements, you can make the most of your study time. Focus on high-weightage topics like:

  • Quantitative Ability (QA): Concentrate on Arithmetic and Algebra.
  • Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC): Focus on Grammar and Vocabulary.
  • Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation (LRDI): Work on Graph Interpretation and Puzzles.

2. Create a Comprehensive Study Plan

A well-organised study plan is your blueprint for success. Break your study goals into smaller, manageable tasks, and allocate more time to areas where you need improvement. Include regular practice sessions, mock tests, and revision. Your plan should cover:

  • Concept Building: Master the fundamentals.
  • Practice Sessions: Solve topic-specific problems daily.
  • Mock Tests: Simulate exam conditions.
  • Revision: Revisit topics regularly to reinforce your learning.

3. Build Strong Fundamentals

Mastering the basics is essential for solving more complex questions. Focus on:

  • Mathematics: Strengthen your skills in Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Probability.
  • Grammar: Practice sentence correction and reading comprehension.
  • Logical Reasoning: Work on Data Interpretation, pattern recognition, and puzzles.

4. Take Regular Mock Tests

Mock tests help assess your preparation and pinpoint areas for improvement. Aim to take a mock test once a week initially, and increase the frequency as the exam approaches. After each test:

  • Analyse your performance to identify weak areas.
  • Review incorrect answers to understand your mistakes.
  • Track your progress to ensure steady improvement.

5. Develop Speed and Accuracy

PGDM entrance exams are time-bound, so it’s important to improve both speed and accuracy. Here’s how:

  • Practice under time pressure: Solve questions within set time limits.
  • Use shortcuts: Learn quick methods for mathematical calculations.
  • Eliminate wrong answers: In multiple-choice questions, rule out obviously incorrect answers to narrow your choices.

6. Focus on Vocabulary and Reading Skills

The VARC section can be daunting, but with the right approach, you can excel. Build your vocabulary and reading skills by:

  • Reading daily: Newspapers, magazines, or novels will expose you to new words and writing styles.
  • Practising comprehension: Regularly tackle passages and questions.
  • Expanding vocabulary: Use apps like Quizlet or flashcards to learn new words.

Test-Taking Strategies for Exam Day

When exam day arrives, your preparation will be key, but how you execute your plan is just as important. Here are some test-taking strategies to optimise your performance:

1. Manage Time Effectively

Effective time management is essential. Allocate time wisely for each section and stick to it. At the start, skim through the questions to identify the easier ones and tackle them first.

2. Prioritise Easy Questions

Tackle the questions you are most confident in first to secure easy marks early. Save the more difficult ones for later, when you have more time to work through them.

3. Avoid Negative Marking

Most PGDM exams have negative markings, so only attempt questions you’re sure about. Avoid guessing as incorrect answers can cost you valuable marks.

4. Stay Calm Under Pressure

It’s easy to feel nervous, but staying calm is crucial for clear thinking. Practice stress-management techniques such as deep breathing or visualising a successful exam experience.

5. Revise Before Submitting

If you have time left at the end, revisit flagged questions to ensure accuracy. Only make changes if you’re confident about the correction, as last-minute changes can sometimes lead to mistakes.

Additional Tips for Success

While the right preparation strategies will set you up for success, here are a few extra tips to make a significant difference:

1. Stay Consistent

Consistency is key. Make studying a regular habit rather than cramming at the last minute. Stick to a routine and revisit topics frequently to keep them fresh.

2. Use Quality Resources

Invest in trusted study materials, such as books by reputed authors (e.g., Arun Sharma for QA). Online platforms offering self-study courses and video tutorials are also great resources.

3. Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Your physical and mental health can impact your exam performance. Get enough sleep, eat nutritious meals, and exercise regularly to stay focused and energized during your study sessions.

4. Join Study Groups

Studying with others can be motivating and productive. Join study groups or online forums where you can exchange resources, clarify doubts, and share tips.
